Updating a magellan gps
Magellan updates the maps for its GPS systems to include new roads that may have been built or destroyed since the original manufacturing date.
To keep the system current, you must download the updated maps from the Magellan website.
When the download is complete, disconnect the GPS system from the computer and use the device normally.
The updated maps will include any changes to the roads since the system was originally sold.
New gps that is basically useless, buy a Garmin if you're looking for a good gps. Does not work - refers to new website which sends you into a never ending circular routine. Instead, it sends me to the Magellan site to select my device and tells me that I can pay for maps for another region (EU) or use Smart GPS Eco to keep my device updated.
Map updates sends me in circles and gets me nowhere.
Magellan uses a firmware application you install on your computer called Content Manager to manage updates.
When you plug a Magellan GPS device into your computer's USB connection, this application communicates with Magellan's servers to check for new updates and install them on your device.

If you don't have a Magellan account, visit the main page of the Magellan website, click "Create Account" and follow the directions on the screen to set one up. Right-click the Content Manager icon in the system tray in Windows and the Dock in OS X.
Select "Check for Updates Now." If any map or software updates are available for download, a notice will pop up on the screen.
In addition to letting you download new maps and content onto your device, it can also be used to back up device information like saved addresses and routes.
To download new data from Content Manager, make sure your Magellan GPS is fully charged, power it off and connect it to a computer running Content Manager with a USB cable.
